These are a few of my favorite things...

Isn't it funny how certain pieces in your home decor stand out more than others. They are the things you love to look at...the things that make you smile. In essence they become your favorite pieces. Here are a few of my favorites...

This lamp I have had for a while, but it didn't always look like this. It was once a really boring brown/black color. It is amazing what spray paint and a new lamp shade can do. I love the pop of yellow with the black and white. It makes me happy.

Oh yes, the green door...one of my very favorites. I got this at a vintage shop near my home. It cost $75 dollars and was worth every penny. The green color is amazing...I am in love.

This is a recent buy...It is a marriage of scrolly metal and really worn wood. I love the rust and the chippy paint. The lines of this piece are beautiful.

These are my two most favorites...every time I see these beautiful faces around my home, my heart skips a beat. I could not imagine my home with out theses two little sweeties...they cost me a fortune, though...

My baby's nest....

When my family and I moved into our new home in March, the only room I had a clear vision for was my brand new baby daughter's room. I knew I wanted something that wasn't too girly or too babyish. I wanted something very calming and fun so I went with trees and birds. I found a fabulous quilt at Pottery Barn that had trees and birds in really fun shades of green, turquoise, orange, and some pink. I loved it instantly, but I also knew it was way to expensive. So I called my mother, seamstress extraordinaire, to see if she could try and make something similar. I emailed her a pic and the deal was done. This is what she came up with...

I love, love, love the way it turned out. I love that it has tons of pattern and bright colors. Just looking at it makes me smile. This was my real inspiration for the rest of the baby's room. I decided to paint the walls blue...the actual color is Behr's Ionic Sky. It is the exact shade of blue I was looking for, calming without being overpowering. On one wall I painted a white tree...this took much longer to paint than the whole entire room, but I absolutely adore it....

I have no tricks on how to make the tree, but I do have one suggestion, keep it simple. Getting crazy with the branches could cause you to end up with a tree that looks like an octopus...which is bad, real bad. Trust me, I have seen it and it's not pretty. I used blue painters tape to make the outline for my tree...I had to tape and re tape to get the tree the shape I wanted. It seriously took forever. Later I hung birdhouses in the tree which came from my baby shower. Also added to the room was original artwork created by my amazing mom...love that lady.

I am thrilled with the way this room turned out. Everything is very calm and simple. It is the perfect nest for my little bird...

Home Sweet Home...

My husband and I recently bought our very first home. Hooray! Goodbye tiny apartment, hello wide open space and lots of blank walls. Walls that I can paint and put as many holes in as I want and well, maybe some fun wallpaper...maybe.

We moved into our new home at the end of March and slowly I have been trying to fill those empty walls and make this shell of a house feel like our home. Things are coming together and I know that over time this house will become what we want it to be, a place of warmth and love, a place that people feel comfortable and welcome....I can do that, right? Time to get crafty....I have lots of little projects planned and am hoping to post some of those to share...so stay tuned...
