Finally Finished...

A while ago I wrote about some fun things I found at the thrift store and I even posted pics of my treasures. I had a crafty plan for both finds, but have only finished one...what can I say, I am a busy gal. Okay, so here it is, finally...an after picture. This started out as what I would call a message board(?) but it is now a unique, shabby shelf that will look so fun in my daughter's room.

The first thing I did was sand the piece...I did not take a picture of this step because, let's face it sanding is boring and not much to look at. The second step was panting...I chose a really bright aqua color...which I love...I didn't worry about painting neatly because I knew I was going to paint over the aqua with white, which is what I did next.

After I painted it white, I took sand paper and started sanding along the edges and in other random places on the shelf to give it that worn, shabby chic feel. At first I was planning to keep the cork board, but then I decided I didn't really like it and I wasn't really going to use it, so I got rid of it.
It was not a fun chore getting the cork off the back of this, in fact it was a complete pain! I took a trip to my favorite store, my mecca...Hobby Lobby and got some really cute scrap book paper. I cut the paper and glued pieces together so that it would be a perfect(well, close to perfect) fit for my shelf. Then I glued it to the back and sprayed the whole thing with a flat, clear finish(Krylon).

I will try and get my second project(jewelry box) finished soon. It needed quite a lot of sanding(boo!) and I have been busy. I am hoping to get some paint on it this week...Hoot! Until we meet again...happy crafting!

Fun Finds...

I decided on a whim to stop off and check out my local Good Will store to see if I could find any treasures. I hadn't been to Good Will since it opened about a month ago. I did not find anything on that first trip, but I was really excited to try again. As I walked in I decided I would have an open mind and really search through what was there among the racks and shelves, looking for things that could be revamped with just a little elbow grease. I found some things I am really excited about.

I found a large jewelry box in really good condition and a fun message board(that is what I am calling it, anyway). Oh, and by the way...I only spent like 12 dollars. Here are some pics:

We will call these the "before" pictures. I have some ideas planned for each of my treasures, but I need to take a trip to my local craft store before I start. For now these projects will have to wait for the weekend. I am excited to see how they will turn out. "After" pictures coming soon...

Angry Pants...

Okay, I am going to tell you a little something about angry pants...and no they are not an actual pair of pants. Sometimes things happen to you or around you that make you mad, real mad. For example you are about to leave to go on a trip to see your family, who by the way you haven't seen in months, and just as you are about to walk out the door your husband decides he needs to download some podcast onto his i pod or pack his computer and game system to take with you on the trip. Never mind that he has been sitting on the couch for half an hour watching you pack the car...

OR...the girl at work is on her cell phone all day while you are pulling more than your share of duties and then you have to listen to her complain about how she doesn't get paid enough for all the "hard" work she does...

OR...you have a friend that has offered to help you with a project(which you know from past experience is a bad idea, but you have to be nice) and of course she waits until the day it needs to be done to do her part leaving you with most of the work

There are so many things that happen in life that are going to make you angry(this is of course worse for the control freaks out there). When this occurs there is only one thing to do...put on your angry pants. You are allowed to be angry, in fact just sit in your angry pants and stew. Think all the angry thoughts you want. Think about how right you are in the situation and how wrong the other person is. Just be angry until you can't do it anymore. And when you can't be angry anymore take the pants off and be happy. Wear the pants as long as you need to. The time needed to wear the pants corresponds directly with how mad the person or situation has made you. Sometimes I find I only need 10-15 minutes in my angry pants, but if you are dealing with repeat offenders you may need longer...sometimes days.

Well now you know all about angry pants. Wear them wisely and make sure to take them off when you don't need them. Look forward to more pants post to come: Sassy pants, Confrontation pants, and Pretend pants...

Here goes...

This is my first official time to blog and I feel the best place to start is with my life. My name is Misty and I am currently 29 years old. That fact will change in a few short months and then I will have to tell people I am 30. This is something I have yet to come to terms with. Oh well...

I am happily married and have a wonderful daughter, Amelia. She is four years old and makes life very interesting. My husband and I are expecting daughter number two in early January. We are very excited, although the challenge of two kids is sometimes scary. We have each other so it shouldn't be to bad.

I like to bargain shop, spend time with my family and friends, read, and craft. I hope to share more on these subjects in the future.
